A New York Diversion

Sometime around 8:30 last night, a few more hours to Boston, nearing the end of New Jersey on route 80, we saw a very familiar skyline...Could it be New York City? Ok, I'm being dramatic. As soon as we entered New Jersey, I knew I was in old territory. We passed Ridgewood, where I nannied in 2002, by just a couple of miles. But I didn't remember that this route literally dumps us out right into the George Washington bridge. Scott had made a joke a few moments before about popping into downtown to get a Starbucks for the last three hours of driving...but the closer we got, we realized maybe we weren't joking.

After the bridge, I easily remembered to take the Hudson River Parkway to midtown.

We got a parking meter near Radio City,

walked a couple of blocks to the glorious Rockefellar tree,

and then a few more freezing blocks down to Time Square. It was a little odd being there just the day after New Years...one wouldn't really know it.

I found remnants of confetti, but nothing that looked written on by well-wishers.

We grabbed our coffee at a Starbucks in the middle of Time Square and headed back, since we didn't feed the meter much and since Josta was waiting in the car and since, well, I had to work at 5am...But, we will be back, now that we know how close it is and what a great birthday present it would make in May!
