Mask-querade

We had an assignment due today in my Acting class to create our own mask. I found some great material that dries faster than papier mache and had to keep my face in a perpetual smile. The whole thing from start to finish only took about 7 hours. Apparently, I was the only one who thought to cast my face...My classmates' masks were, to put it gently, lacking in inspiration, made out of milk cartons, paper plates, stickers and garland. Hmm.

In retrospect, I believe mine represents my love of outdoors, my desire to be passionate in life and have the ability to be mischievous and whimsical onstage. Anyway, I can't wait to make more!

I cannot begin to express what I'm feeling . . . shock and awe . . . shock and awe.
You are SO creative! Tell me, what did your prof think?
I can't wait for Noah and Bronwen to see this tomorrow. Maybe we can do this for a project soon. What material did you use?

Oh, I tried to call you back, but dialed wrong. Josh has the cell phone with your correct number in it and I don't have your number written down anywhere! AGH
Can you call me?

Did I say how incridibly beautiful your mask turned out? Each step of the process actually. You are so incredibly beautiful :)

ahhhh-mazing!
I'm not sure 2 & 3 yr olds will sit still long enough to do this- but oh so fun! I love the beautiful colored leaf that is a part of the whole piece.
Turned out great!

Jayme, I had to call the girls over immediately to show them your beautiful piece of art! You are very creative, girl! It's gorgeous! We are so proud of you! The girls were in a flurry of questions - how did she make that? what is it made out of? what did she use to put color on it? is that a leaf?! Beautiful, Jayme, beautiful. xoxo

I called Jeff and Clayton right over and we just sat here in amazement as I scrolled down and we saw each picture. Wow! We love it! I bet your classmates were a little embarrassed when they saw what you made compared to their silly things... :) You are so creative! What did your prof. think?

my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That nearly took my breath away!!!!
I must admit...I probably would have been a paper plate person..or I wonder if you could use frosting somehow, since I love to frost cakes. Anyway, that is magnificent, girl, and I am so so proud of you!!! You must blog some of the comments you received from the students and your prof..it seems we all want to know!!

Thank you everyone :o) I was definitely going for a Midsummer's effect...I believe my classmates were more 'impressed' with my mask than my professor, although she loved it too. It's just that that was what she expected out of all of us. After I introduced mine, she said, "I'm surprised Jayme was the only one who cast her face. Maybe you all would have had more success if you had that kind of form to begin with." She didn't say so, but I think she assumed we would all at least think to start with a form. She also said they could all have another go at it, if they wanted to make one like mine! So maybe I'll make another one too! I really want to cast Scott's face.
