June 9, 2007

Congratulations, Scott! I feel the same way today as the day we exchanged vows: extremely exhuberant and accomplished. Our time in Chicago has culminated to this glorious, most celebratory day.

What a respectable young man I married.

We parked off of 55th street and walked the rest of the way to campus. It was a happy, proud walk.

We grabbed a snapshot before he got in line to enter the quad with his fellow classmates for the ceremony.

The men in skirts were amazing! Their music put Pomp and Circumstance to shame. The quiet solemnity and the distant, but ever-growing sound of the plaintive bagpipes during the anticipation of the procession of graduates brought tears to my eyes. As they came into sight, I thought my heart would burst, as my mind was flooded with the memories of papers, tests, projects and killer Greek homework. So many sleepless nights are now rewarded with the distinction of graduating 'With Honors' at a world renowned academic institution such as U of C. What an admirable focus was Scott's!

Scott's parents, grandparents and my parents joined us for a hot, cloudless morning on the beautiful lawns, with folding chairs into the thousands! The names took three hours to read and by the end, half of our party had headed for the shade and protection of the cold, stone walls of Stuart Hall.

Finally, .... A great roar of relief.

After fresh strawberries, champaign and lemonade, compliments of the University, we all walked around campus and took photos of some favorite spots. Scott and I walked home together through the park, where countless Hyde Park neighbors gave their congratulations.

Scott prepared an amazing lunch of rosemary and pepper encrusted pork tenderloin, fingerling potatoes with balsamic shallot butter and asparagus with asiago cheese. We used our white wedding china for the first time. What a special occasion at our house, and the last sweet gathering of this kind at this location.

I gave Scott a handsome frame from the University's bookstore for his well-earned diploma, among other extremely generous gifts from our family members.

(There is a diploma in there--stupid flash)

I'm sure going to miss this amazing campus... maybe I'll do a whole other blog on it.
